CLINICAL SERIES

FOR PROFESSIONALS

Psychodynamic Beginnings for BIPOC Therapists:
A Clinical Series on the Foundation of
Psychodynamic Theory and Practice

Starts January 21, 2025

Interest Form

Series Description:
This clinical series is intended for BIPOC therapists who are interested in learning more about how to integrate and apply psychodynamic principles into their psychotherapy work, whether in private practice, community mental health, or other clinical settings.

What is psychodynamic psychotherapy?
Psychodynamic psychotherapy supports people in understanding their inner selves, including how past experiences influence their thoughts, feelings, and actions. By uncovering unconscious patterns and conflicts, this framework supports individuals in better navigating both their internal and external worlds, including the ways in which they relate to themselves and others. Over time, through deep self-work, exploration of early life experiences, and different decision-making, individuals often begin to experience improved sense of self and better quality of life. For more information about psychodynamic psychotherapy, please see here.

What is Included?:
This 9-week series will incorporate traditional and contemporary psychodynamic/psychoanalytic readings, videos, and podcasts, and also weave in literature and media that is inclusive of the lived experiences of Black and Brown communities. Each week will include a didactic and group discussion of the material presented.

Group members will also have the opportunity to meet with the facilitator
for one 1:1 psychodynamically informed clinical consultation
.

No previous knowledge of psychodynamic theory is needed.
